My favourite theatre play

My favourite theatre play is a musical called ”A Very Potter Musical”. It’s an amateur production made by some college students at Michigan University, USA. They have written the music, lyrics and the play all by themselves and it was performed in 2009. They later uploaded the whole play on Youtube and it has over 10 million hits in total!

 

The play is about Harry Potter and his second year at Hogwarts. But don’t be fooled! It’s not based on Harry’s second year in the novels, but the fourth and seventh. It’s a mishmash of the novels and you can recognise all the characters and events, like Voldemort’s rebirth, the Yule ball and even professor Quirrel with Voldemort on his back.They sing, they dance and the actors are just amazing! Darren, who is playing Harry is now starring in the popular TV-series Glee and some of the other actors have been in TV-shows and movies.

 

My favourite actor in this play is Lauren Lopez. She is not that famous, but she gives us a wonderful portrayal of Draco Malfoy. Yes, she is playing a guy. But she is still amazing, with her British accent and the summersaults on the floor. Watch the play, and you’ll know what I mean.

 

There are so many good original songs in the play and so many quotes. My favourites are ”You never tell a girl you like her. It only makes you look like an idiot” and ”What the HELL is a Hufflepuff?”. In the fandom, they are extremely popular and that is also the expression ”totally awesome”. Once again, you need to watch the play to understand.

 

The ensamble is called Team Starkid and have done two sequels to the musical, ”A Very Potter Sequel” (which actually is a prequel) and ”A Very Potter Senior Year” (released online one week ago). They are now a theatre company and have done many productions, like ”Starship” and ”Holy Musical B@man”. I strongly recommend all of them to anyone who like Harry Potter or musicals or just totally awesome fandoms. Watch them. You’ll never regret it.

The curious incident…

I’ve read a book called ”The curious incident with the dog by the nighttime”. This was the first time I read it in english, but I’ve read it in swedish many times before.

 

The book is about Christopher, a 15 year old guy living in England. He has the diagnosis Autism, and because of that he is very different. He is extremely good at math, but can’t understand emotions and he dislikes the most curious things, including the colour yellow.

Christopher has lived with his father since his mother died, but when the neighbours dog Wellington gets killed he starts investigating the case. Soon he discovers secrets that shouldn’t have been brought up and when he founds out that his mother is alive, he sets out on a journey to find her in London and at the same time escape from his father, who killed Wellington and hid all the mothers letters for years.

 

When you read the book you soon discover that it’s written from Christopher’s point of view. It makes it kind of difficult to read the book, because it’s really written like it was an Autsit’s work. You get to follow Christopher’s thoughts and it is really interesting. But at the same time it gets boring after a while, because you have to stay focused all the time. This may not be a very good book to start with when you are learning english, but if you have some knowledge and want a really unique book, I strongly recommend it for you.

 

I give it 7 out of 10 points.

It’s about Forrest, Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump is the main character in the movie with the same name. He’s kind of a funny character, and with funny I don’t mean someone telling jokes. He’s special and unique and you can sometimes have a really good laugh at him.

 

Forrest grew up with his mother in Alabama, because his father was on ”vacation”. His mother taught him many things, including that he was ”no different from the other kids” and ”stupid is as stupid does”. He follows these rules and he tries to live protecting the people he care for, mostly his best friend Jenny.

 

Even though Forrest has got a little to small IQ, you can see that he’s very talented. He learns things fast, like putting a gun together. He can also play pingpong and he’s got very strong legs so he can run really fast.

 

Forrest is a character you just can’t resist. He’s so lovely and unique and he brings out your tears but also your laughter. He’s one of my favourite characters in movies and would really like to meet him in real life.
